Is My Cork Underlayment Safe?

Which Cork is Safe?

On the heals of much national news regarding unsafe floor laminate being produced in China, we believe it is important to alert the general public that floor laminate is not the only product where extreme caution should be used when selecting your materials. Cork underlayment imported from China is also routinely produced with this same known carcinogen as a binder and should be avoided by professional installers and DIY consumers alike.  These products are hazardous to your health, both during and after their  installation.

How Do I Know It’s Safe?

When purchasing cork underlayment always:

  1. Confirm the binder is polyurethane – which has no health related issues.
  2. Avoid products that contain formaldehyde, a known cancer causing chemical
  3. Ascertain country of origin – Portuguese cork is the safest, best quality option

 The Natural Choice

Your family’s safety and health comes first. When doing renovations or new construction on your home you should not have to worry about it. Organic Portuguese Cork underlayment is an excellent, proven and safe material to use under hardwood flooring, stone, tile and ceramic.
